Nashville's main airport may soon have a new name... Dolly Parton International.

On Friday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport (BNA) announced plans to rename the airport in honour of the late Dolly Parton, who died August 25th at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

“Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state,” Bill Lee said in a statement. “At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state’s favourite daughter and greet travelers with the enduring legacy of Dolly’s music, generosity, faith, and kindness.”

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell also threw his support behind the change with a statement on social media.

According to the announcement, the Metro Nashville Airport Authority’s current naming policy and Governor Lee’s proposal to rename the airport will be discussed at MNAA’s meeting on Sept. 17th. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
