A special night for Randy Travis at the Grand Ole Opry became even more meaningful thanks to a surprise from Carrie Underwood.

Randy Travis celebrated an incredible milestone over the weekend, marking 40 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry and Carrie Underwood was there to help honour him.

 

During Saturday night’s show in Nashville, Carrie surprised the country legend on stage and presented him with a special commemorative scarf designed by Manuel Cuevas in recognition of his four decades as an Opry member. 

 

Carrie told Randy that he remains incredibly special to her, the Opry and country music as a whole, celebrating not only his talent and legacy but the person he is away from the spotlight.

 

Back in 2008, it was Randy who surprised Carrie with an invitation to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The invitation came after Carrie performed his classic “I Told You So,” which she had also recorded for her Carnival Ride album. 

 

Nearly two decades later, Carrie had the chance to return the favour and surprise one of the artists who helped welcome her into the Opry family.

 

Randy officially became a Grand Ole Opry member in 1986 at just 27 years old, the same year he released his breakthrough album Storms of Life. Four decades later, his influence on country music and on artists like Carrie Underwood  is still being celebrated.
