A new species of snail has been named in honour of the late Jimmy Buffett. According to CNN, scientists recently discovered the snail, known as the Cayo Margarita in the Florida Reef. It is named after Jimmy Buffett's hit, "Margaritaville."
"In some ways our team was no stranger to the regional signature drink. And of course, Jimmy Buffett's music," Rudiger Bieler, the biologist who first saw the snail while scuba diving, told CNN. "So when we came up with a species name, we really wanted to allude to the colour of the drink and the fact that is lives in the Florida keys."
The snail is bright yellow, which apparently acts as a defense mechanism against potential predators.
