Hamilton Winterfest 2021
To Monday 15 February 2021
Hamilton Winterfest 2021 kicks off on January 29th, bringing more than 50 virtual events to be enjoyed from the comforts of Hamiltonian homes.
For more than 40 years Hamilton Winterfest has brought together a diverse mix of community producers to create a wide-range of events across the city keeping Hamiltonians active during the coldest month of year. This year is like no other, with a quick shift to all online programming Winterfest will be delighting Hamiltonian’s in a wide array of virtual experiences. From the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Hamilton Fringe Festival, to the Hamilton Public Library, Soupfest and Factory Media Arts Centre – Winterfest gives Hamiltonians a reason to stay home.
Co-produced by the City of Hamilton and Cobalt Connects, the festival is supported by core funding from the City of Hamilton, the Province of Ontario, Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund and Hamilton Halton Brant Regional Tourism Association, along with sponsors acquired by Cobalt Connects. These funds drive a collective marketing campaign, Signature programming, and small grants to community partners.

Inspired by Icebergs
Each year the festival commissions a new piece of public art. This year we worked with local designer Tanis MacArthur to create Inspired by Icebergs. Inspired by the works of Group of Seven painter Lawren Harris, MacArthur has created 4 massive inflatable icebergs that become the canvas for the Winterfest Hub. Walk through the ice tunnel and enjoy a series of projection art pieces and concert streams. Each year the Winterfest inflatable sculpture is sponsored by Fabricland.
In partnership with Collective Arts, Marz Homes, Ontario Lottery and Gaming, and Sound Box Productions, Winterfest will premier three recorded concerts with incredible talent from Hamilton, Montreal and Toronto. The line-up includes Illitry, Clerel and Monowhales.
Each year the amazing team at the Hamilton Fringe Festival presents FROST BITES – a site specific festival of short theatrical works. Winterfest is proud to support this stellar element of the festival that includes online and downloadable take-it-with-you audio productions.
Art Gallery of Hamilton
Thanks to the Incite Foundation for the Arts, the Art Gallery of Hamilton will be creating a series of online content ranging from art classes to movie screenings.
